Guided tours to Besullo began in 2013 as a volunteer experience, within the 'Breaking Distances' Program of the Cangas del Narcea City Council, organized by the Virgen de Las Veigas Women's Association and the elderly people of the town of Besullo.
Since then, these experiences have evolved greatly, to the point of becoming professional and joining the activity of the Alejandro Casona Visitor Reception Centre, turning Besullo into an important tourist attraction within the offer of Cangas del Narcea and the Fuentes del Narcea Tourist Region.
Today, Besullo has a permanent tourist information point and a calendar of guided tours that take place throughout the year (except in January and February). These visits consist of a pleasant walk through the town, discovering the most interesting elements of the history, architecture, ethnography, customs and traditions of a town whose people managed to turn their village into a focus of economic, social, political and cultural progress since the 19th century.
We discover the traditional architecture and the main ethnographic elements of Besullo; its parish church, heir to an old family monastery that contributed to the foundation of the monastery of Corias; the presence of the Protestant community in the town and its influence on the social and cultural progress of the area; of course, we go through the life and work of our most distinguished neighbour, the playwright Alejandro Casona, but we also get to know other important personalities who emerged from our village; and we learn about the great industrial peculiarity of Besullo: its ferreiro past, the artisanal iron forging industry that meant the economic take-off of the area; we visit the Mazo d'Abaxo, the last large hydraulic forge that remains active in the region, and that you will be able to see in action.
An experience that hides much of Besullo's past, a dazzling story that surprises you.
