ETNOGRAPHY AND TRADITIONAL ASTURIAN ARCHITECTURE

Besullo has managed to maintain the aesthetics that have traditionally identified the villages of the south-west of Asturias.
The structure and materials of the buildings, as well as their peculiar elements (balconies, glazed galleries, cantilevered corridors) have been maintained over the centuries, giving this enclave a traditional air that takes us back in time.
Special mention should be made of the hórreos and paneras, of which Besullo has a generous quantity and quality. These ancestral constructions are one of the most identifying elements of the Asturian rural landscape, and show us a wide collection of elements and construction techniques worthy of admiration.
Finally, the agricultural constructions are also worthy of mention. These include the cortinos, circular stone constructions about 2 metres high used to protect the beehives from attacks by bears and fire, and the corripas, also circular and made of stone, which were placed in the large chestnut groves to collect the hedgehogs from the chestnuts and allow them to ripen.
In short, many centuries of history and human labour in the midst of nature come together in the village of Besullo.
BESULLO HAS A BEAUTIFUL ETHNOGRAPHIC COLLECTION, WITH A TOTAL OF 25 HÓRREOS AND PANERAS (18 PANERAS AND 7 HÓRREOS), IN A FAIRLY GOOD STATE OF CONSERVATION, WHICH EARNED THE VILLAGE THE PRIZE FOR THE BEST COLLECTION OF HÓRREOS AND PANERAS IN THE 1970s.
WE SUGGEST YOU TAKE A WALK AND WANDER AROUND THE VILLAGE, AND SEE IF YOU CAN DISCOVER THEM ALL.
